GEELONG Cats head coach Chris Scott has praised Brandan Parfitt for his recent form and for playing a pivotal part in Geelong’s unbeaten 4-0 start to 2024.

Scott’s commendation of Parfitt came after the Cats’ narrow four-point win over the Western Bulldogs in Adelaide last weekend, citing the 25-year-old’s persistence and preparation leading into Round 1 of this season.

“It has been tough for him but he’s a good example of really persisting and not dropping his bundle,” Scott said.

“He has had a few niggles over the years that hurt his continuity a bit, but he had a great pre-season this year that gave him every chance.”

Parfitt has featured as a prominent piece in Geelong’s midfield over the past three weeks and was a part of the Cats 2022 premiership, but only played nine games in 2023.

Parfitt has averaged 20 disposals, five clearances and close to 10 tackles per game in his three-week stretch during wins against Adelaide, Hawthorn, and the Bulldogs.

“I think almost every side, if you’re the midfielder that’s the next one in or the second one inline, those guys are pretty good players,” Scott said.

“Every team in the competition has a pretty good midfield. There is no shame at all in being a little bit behind those guys and that is where he found himself, playing well enough to play AFL footy, but just behind a pretty good group.

“This year it has opened up for him and he has taken that chance, and I am really proud of him.”

Parfitt’s next chance to continue his stellar form comes in the Cats’ Round 5 clash against a winless North Melbourne side at GMHBA Stadium Sunday afternoon at 1.00pm.
