United secures Hank for 24-25
CLEMSON University alum and Brisbane Capitals player Hannah Hank hopes her team-first mentality will provide major dividends when she suits up in Geelong United’s inaugural WNBL roster.
United unveiled Hank as its newest acquisition at the end of July, following an impressive collegiate career at the Division One level and debut season in the NBL1 North in Queensland.
Hank said she is excited for the coming campaign, led by head coach Chris Lucas.
“It’s definitely a really special feeling to be part of the inaugural team,” she said.
“I think the opportunity to set the tone for Geelong United is not only a responsibility, but something to, for sure, be excited about.
“The group that we’re pulling together is super keen to hit the ground running, and that along with what I’ve heard about the amazing community support in Geelong, I’m just really keen to get there and be a part of it.
“I really pride myself on being a great teammate. It’s something I learned a lot about in college, just making sure I’m someone that they know they can lean on and has their back in each moment.”
Hank has previous playing history with coach Lucas, training with the Adelaide Lightning before heading off to college.
Lucas said he has kept an eye on Hank’s basketball development through college, believing her to be a handy signing for the Geelong United roster.
“Hannah, from my point of view ticks a lot of boxes.
“She’s had one year as a pro in Germany, and I think her numbers have been very consistent.
“She’s been looking for the opportunity to have a crack at the WNBL and, given the opportunity, I think she’ll play a terrific role for us.
“We only want players in the program that will work hard for both them and each other, and she complements all those values.”
