WILDCATS Basketball Club is moving on to next week’s RL Signs Women’s Winter Championship Grand Final following a four-quarter performance against Try Boys in last night’s (Tuesday, September 10) Preliminary Final.

Wildcats won all four quarters yesterday against the Bears to emerge triumphant 34-point victors, 75-41, ending Try Boys’ season in the process.

The game hung in the balance following 10 minutes of play with only a basket separating the two rosters, Wildcats leading 19-17.

Wildcats’ defence had an impact, limiting Try Boys to just seven points in the second quarter while extending its lead to 12 point at half-time.

The same pattern remained for the remaining two periods, as Wildcats conducted a defensive masterclass.

Wildcats outpointed Try Boys 39-17 in the second half, capping off an impressive display en route to their 34-point win.

Wildcats enjoyed points spread out across all 10 of its players, led by Jasmine King’s 25-point performance.

Zahlia Foley amassed 16 points and Chantelle Hall was unsurprisingly reliable in the front court with 11 points.

On the other side of the ball, Shania Soutar and Olivia Virt each scored 10 point, Try Boys’ only double-digit contributors on the night. Alivia Osborne finished with eight points.

Wildcats and Sharks Basketball Club will meet again next Tuesday, a fortnight after their last encounter, where the latter had an eight-point win.

Wildcats will also have to find a solution to minimise the impact of Sharks’ guards Alex Duck, Georgia Varley and Cortney Hollowood, who combined for 58 points in the Qualifying Final.

Try Boys enjoyed a largely successful 2024 winter campaign, clinching a top three seed heading into finals with a record of 10 wins, eight losses, and two draws.
