Watch Australia’s finest young performing artists
Particular highlights not to be missed in 2024 season include the centenary of the Herald Sun Aria, the calisthenics Graceful Solo centenary, and Celebrating Chopin at the Art Gallery of Ballarat.
The Herald Sun Aria heats and semi-final showcase the finest operatic singers in the country as they compete for a place in the prestigious final. The semi-final will be held at Ballarat Mechanics Institute on Monday 18 October with a centenary celebration, pre-show drinks and canapes.
Celebrating Chopin is presented within the stunning backdrop of the Art Gallery of Ballarat, as the most highly trained pianists in the state compete for thousands of dollars in prize money on a Schimmel Grand Concert Piano, specifically transported in for this event on 31 August and 01 September.
The centenary of the calisthenics Graceful Solo will be held on 12 October and twenty-five finalists from all over Australia, selected from auditions held in June, will compete for the most prestigious solo award on the calisthenics calendar. A centenary celebratory luncheon for past winners and coaches will also be held on the 12 October.
In July, the season moves into the founding Royal South Street Society discipline, debating, at Australian Catholic University (ACU), Connors Hall. ACU has proudly partnered with the Royal South Street Society to conduct the ACU Debating Challenge Cup in partnership also with Central Highlands Water, and the ACU Speech and Drama Competition at Connors Hall throughout July and August.
The Freemasons Pianoforte will be held at the Ballarat Masonic Centre and the Freemasons Vocal Competition will be held at the Ballarat Mechanics Institute throughout August, before the UFS All Abilities Performing Arts, the Countpro Choral Competition and the Freemasons Instrumental Music all take to the stage in September.
Late September and October will see the highly popular ballet and calisthenics dancers return to the stage at Founders Theatre as they perform for the love and joy of dance, as well as compete for prestigious championship, troupe, solo and aggregate awards.
