COMMUNITY members with items of historic interest are invited to share them with members of the Woady Yaloak Historical Society.

The society, which was formed in 1985, is an accredited museum and aims to preserve the district’s history by the acquisition and preservation of records and by providing public access to them.

It currently has 180 members.

“What we have in our society are records, fascinating records, and we’ve got a wealth of information and artefacts belonging to the area,” secretary Pauline Riches said.

“We cover quite a large area including Haddon, Berringa, we go as far as Cape Clear sometimes, we’ve got Rokewood, Ross Creek.”

Records are open to researchers from 9am to 3pm every Wednesday, apart from the first Wednesday of the month where opening hours are 1.30pm until 3pm.

“We do a lot of family research, and we can also research somebody’s house,” Ms Riches said.

“We can do all of that and we’ve got a marvellous collection of maps.

“We have a superb collection of photographs dating back to the 1850s.”

Anyone wishing to contribute an item is asked to email [email protected].

Annual membership costs $30 per person or family and includes 12 newsletters and free research facilities. For more information, visit the Woady Yaloak Historical Society website.
