Avalon Airport is preparing for a major comeback, with plans underway to bring back international flights for the first time since early 2020 — and a direct Bali route is on the horizon.
Jetstar Airways is expected to launch a new route from Avalon to Denpasar in March 2026, operating five return flights per week, with over 120,000 seats projected annually. While the airline has yet to publish a full media release, multiple industry outlets have confirmed the plans as part of Jetstar’s largest Avalon expansion to date.
Jetstar is also expected to restart flights from Avalon to Adelaide and increase frequency on its Avalon–Brisbane route, collectively adding more than 330,000 extra seats a year through the local airport.
“This is an exciting time for Avalon and the Geelong region,” Avalon Airport CEO Ari Suss said.
“The return of international flights and expanded domestic connections gives our community better access to affordable travel and positions Avalon as a genuine alternative for regional Victoria.”
Jetstar CEO Stephanie Tully said the decision to invest in Avalon reflects strong demand for convenient low‑cost travel options outside of Melbourne’s primary airport.
A new Victorian Government-backed bus route, Route 18, will connect Avalon Airport to Lara Station seven days a week, improving public transport access for Greater Geelong, the Bellarine and Surf Coast.
Avalon previously operated international flights to Bali and Kuala Lumpur before the pandemic. This proposed route would mark Jetstar’s first international service from Avalon and the airport’s return to overseas operations.
More updates will be shared through Avalon Airport’s official website: avalonairport.com.au
