THE Bannockburn Tennis Club is looking for junior and senior players to join in on its winter season.

Kicking off on 1 May, the tennis group will play matches every Saturday, with the season lasting around three months.

Club secretary Rachael Le Maitre said the club will ensure everyone is competing comfortably.

“We will have teams of four, which will be graded, so they’re sorted by their abilities,” she said.  “We can have teams of two males and two females, or gender specific teams.”

Seniors will compete in a double’s tournament, rotating their teams of four to give everyone a crack on the court.

Juniors will be able to play both doubles and singles, with exceptional younger players encouraged to compete in the senior tournament.

Ms Le Maitre encouraged people of all ages to pick up a racquet and give tennis a try.

“Tennis is a great way to stay active, enjoy the outdoors and meet some wonderful people,” she said.

Games will be made up of three sets, with juniors playing in the mornings, before the seniors take up the courts in the afternoons.

Team registrations are now open until Sunday, 28 March for juniors, and Saturday, 3 April for seniors.  Registration costs are still in the works and are expected to be finalised shortly.

Ms Le Maitre said the club has been considering starting up social weeknight games as well.

“Nothing’s concrete for now, but we have been looking into bringing some less competitive matches to the club on weeknights,” she said. “If we have the numbers and enough interest, we might be able to kick it off in future.”
