Geelong Cats midfielder and two-time Carji Greeves Medallist Cameron Guthrie has officially called time on his career at Kardinia Park, ending a 240-game journey in the blue and white hoops.

The club confirmed Guthrie, a Premiership player in 2022, was not offered a contract for the 2026 AFL season, concluding a decorated 14-year career that began when he was drafted with pick 23 in 2010.

Guthrie made his debut in 2011, but it was the following year where he began to make his mark, playing 18 games and showcasing his versatility across half-back and midfield. By 2014, he had locked in his spot, earning Geelong’s Best Young Player award.

Known for his agility and clean ball use, Guthrie developed into a key piece of the Cats’ midfield and one of the league’s most reliable contributors. His standout year came in 2020, winning his first Carji Greeves Medal and earning All-Australian honours.

In 2022, Guthrie reached the pinnacle of team success. Not only did he claim a second Carji Greeves Medal, but he was a vital part of the Cats’ Premiership triumph — made even more special by sharing it with younger brother Zach.

While injuries hampered his final three seasons, Guthrie remained a model of professionalism, working tirelessly through rehabilitation.

Geelong’s Executive General Manager of Football Andrew Mackie said Guthrie’s impact stretched beyond the field.

“Cam has been an outstanding and dedicated servant of the Geelong Football Club, both on and off the field,” Mackie said.

“He had the special ability to elevate his game in key moments, especially during our 2022 Premiership run.”

Guthrie departs with a list of honours: 240 games, 75 goals, a Premiership medal, two Best and Fairest awards, All-Australian honours, and life membership at the club.
