DEVELOPMENT of Golden Plains Shire’s open space and open space maintenance strategies are currently underway.

The documents will guide the planning, provision, management and investment in open spaces across the municipality, and community members are invited to share their ideas.

Open spaces include parks, reserves, trails, sportsgrounds and natural areas which can be accessed by all.

The project aims to create coordinated planning, prioritisation and investment, and a clear roadmap that reflects the community’s expectations.

The Open Space Strategy will address open space types and classifications, land use planning and growth, equity and accessibility and climate, health and social outcomes, while the Maintenance Strategy will look at how the spaces will be maintained including cost, staff, equipment and delivery models.

“We want to better understand what the community value about places and spaces, how they use them day to day, and how they feel these spaces are performing,” mayor Cr Owen Sharkey said.

“You are the experts in your community, and your feedback is essential to help ensure these strategies reflect what matters most to the community.

“Together, we can create an open space network that truly reflects our people, places and future.”

Consultation closes Friday 28 November and can be completed on the Golden Plains Shire website or at the municipality’s customer hubs.
