Man charged over Eastern Beach death
A man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman at Eastern Beach.
Homicide Squad detectives confirmed the charge on Thursday, January 29, after the body of a 49-year-old Springvale woman was found near the Eastern Beach Pavilion the previous day.
Emergency services were called to the waterfront location about 11.25am on Wednesday, January 28, where the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The discovery triggered a major police response, with the foreshore area sealed off as detectives launched a homicide investigation.
Later on Wednesday, police arrested a 53-year-old man of no fixed address in Geelong’s CBD.
Victoria Police confirmed the man has since been charged with one count of murder.
He is expected to appear at the Geelong Magistrates Court on Friday, January 30.
Detectives allege the man and woman were known to one another.
The investigation remains ongoing.
