SCHOOL holiday entertainment is sorted for crafty kids and booklovers this summer.

In January and February, librarians are hosting a program of free activities for young people at Bannockburn Library to help them develop new skills and flex their creative muscles.

“We are excited to offer so many free events across our library network that cater for a diverse range of interests of our local children and young people,” said Geelong Regional Libraries CEO Vanessa Schernickau.

“We’re also delighted to partner with organisations like Story Dogs, The Brainary, National Wool Museum, Barwon Water, City of Greater Geelong, and National Gallery of Victoria to help us provide fun, creative, and educational experiences in our library spaces.”

The program at Bannockburn includes a master crafting course with basic embroidery tips for teens over the age of 15.

An NGV Kids on Tour initiative led by artists is aimed at preschool-aged children and young people over the age of 12, while a Ready, Set, Prep program is all about preparing the littlest class of 2024 prep for the classroom.

Ready, Set, Prep is also an opportunity for kids living in Golden Plains Shire, and their families, to meet one another and to start to form friendships.

“Ready, Set, Prep is the perfect introduction to what to expect on their first day at school,” a statement from the library said.

“This welcoming and fun session is all about helping children, and their adults, feel a little less anxious and a little more prepared for the new school experience.”
