Response grants for community groups

FOLLOWING the state’s easing of restrictions on events late last year Golden Plains Shire has kick started a new grants program aimed at funding various community group projects.

With the idea of assisting community groups to bounce back after the pandemic, the $35,000 COVID-19 Quick Response Community Grants program offers up to $4000 per application.

In recognising that the pandemic changed the way various community groups and individuals operate, mayor Cr Helena Kirby encouraged people to take advantage of the new initiative.

“[This] is the latest part of our response to these changed circumstances,” she said.

“The grants will help eligible organisations activate community spaces and deliver new or improved programs, services and events, all in a COVID-safe manner.

“Golden Plains Shire is home to some fantastic community groups, and I hope to see many take up this opportunity from council to help them get back to what they love to do.”

The grants are available in two categories, the first being Operating in COVID Environment Grant which aims to assist community organisations ability to foster a COVID-safe environment in line he current restrictions with grants up to $1000 up for grabs.

The second category, Community Engage, Connect and Recover Initiatives, hopes to supply grants of up to $4,000 to support groups deliver new or existing projects and activities with the aim of helping the Shire get back to normal after COVID-19.

The first round of the of the program is now open and applications will close on 1 February or until all funds are allocated.
