SAVE Our Station, also known as SOS, has called a meeting to carry on the fight against the redevelopment of the Ballarat Station precinct.

The meeting is set for Saturday, 6 October at 12pm and will be held in the Victorian Railway Institute Hall at the corner of Lydiard and Nolan Street.

A spokesperson for group said this meeting was possibly the last time people opposed to plans for the Ballarat Station could take part in formulating a course of action.

SOS is hoping to make the redevelopment plans a state election issue heading into November’s vote.

Specifically, leaders of SOS want to convince the two major parties to commit to re-negotiating the plans for the station, keep land and buildings in public ownership, and have the proposed apartment complex built somewhere else.

“We know from your past involvement that you are willing to help us protect the public land, heritage, transport potential and amenity of our much-neglected Ballarat Station precinct and its immediate neighbourhood,” SOS Secretary John Barnes said.

“We hope to have a good turnout on Saturday.”
