SHIRE residents are encouraged to be their best and try a new activity, as Teesdale Dojo hosts Bursting Through COVID-19 fitness and motivation sessions.

Teesdale Dojo’s Wayne Murphy said the free Sunday morning series is open to people of all ages, abilities and fitness levels, and not just focused on karate.

“The feel-good sessions are about getting people active, confident, involved in the community, and out of COVID hibernation,” he said.

“When you feel isolated, sometimes you go to ground, but we want to get people motivated. We see the value in people continuing to train together and maintaining a level of fitness.”

Teesdale Dojo will welcome Kyokushin karate instructor Michelle Vogrinec and Eltham Martial Arts Academy’s Kiley Baker for the upcoming events on Sunday, 29 August and Sunday, 19 September respectively.

“Kiley and Michelle have a lot to offer. Their skillsets are around motivation, exercise, mindfulness, personal and life coaching, and they have a lot of messages to deliver to gee people up,” Mr Murphy said.

The series is designed to suit all levels of fitness.

“The sessions will be 50 per cent fitness orientated and 50 per cent mindfulness and motivational speaking, with opportunities to ask questions.”

The Dojo has already hosted two Be Your Best – Bursting Through COVID-19 training sessions in partnership with Vault Fitness on Sundays in August.

“We had some brand-new people turn up with nothing to do with the karate group, and they had a blast,” Mr Murphy said.

“Come along to the next sessions and be involved at your own level in the supportive environment.”

Teesdale Dojo launched in 2011 when Mr Murphy moved out of Geelong with his wife, and into the country town.

“There was a community interest in karate, the local hall became available, and we’ve been there ever since.

“There are a number of other clubs in the region that have come and gone, but Teesdale has always ensured good numbers and community support,” Mr Murphy said.

The fitness series has been funded by the Golden Plains Shire in partnership with the Victorian Government’s Community Activation and Social Isolation initiative.

Coffee, tea, water, sports drinks, and snacks will be available after the sessions for participants to enjoy. Book at trybooking.com/BSXML.
