A TEESDALE school bus stop located on the corner of Shaws Road and Bannockburn-Shelford Road has been closed by the Department of Transport and Planning.
The stop was closed on Wednesday 5 November and students have been redirected to existing stops on Bannockburn-Shelford Road near Red Gum Drive which are approximately 500 metres away.
“To ensure our bus services remain safe and offer reliable connections for our passengers, this stop is closed following the recommendations from a road safety assessment,” a department spokesperson said.
The closure comes after six-year-old Caleb Wesley was killed in March crossing Bannockburn-Shelford Road to get to a school bus stop.
Golden Plains Shire council assisted the Department of Transport and Planning in an audit of the bus stop which led to its closure.
Following the decision made by the Department, Teesdale Primary School and Golden Plains Shire council staff were notified.
