Autumn racing in Avoca

April 4, 2024 BY

AUTUMN racing is back this Saturday in Avoca with live music, local wines, food trucks and children’s activities on offer.

This is the club’s second racing event of the season following the Avoca Cup in October.

Entry is free for children under 16 and club manager Kate Kirkpatrick said the event was the perfect family day out.

“It’s a nice way with it being the school holidays for people to get out. We know times are tough right now and it’s a nice, casual day out in the Pyrenees that’s not too expensive.”

The racing program will kick off from 1pm and for the kids there will be a jumping castle, obstacle courses and football workshops.

The event is set to inject money into the local economy, with visitors expected to stop off at local cafes, wineries and petrol stations.

“We’re fortunate enough to have clubs throughout the community and the racing club is often the backbone,” Ms Kirkpatrick said.

“The economic value that these events bring to the town is great.”

Ms Kirkpatrick encouraged the community to make a trip out of it and experience what the Pyrenees has to offer.

“It is a great time in the Pyrenees with the harvest and all of our wineries which the region is well known for,” she said.

“You’ve got the changing trees and vines, and we have the local wine at the races for people to try.”

The Avoca Autumn Races are on tomorrow (Saturday, April 6) and tickets can be purchased on the Country Racing Victoria website.
