JACK Denahy has claimed his second National Title in the 57kg Elite division of the Australian Championships.

Denahy fought three times over three days, his favourite clash was against 2018 Commonwealth Games representative, Jack Bowen, while his third fight against Queensland’s Orion Brown sealed the deal.

“Going into the tournament I was very confident in my preparation. Both Nationals I trained very, very hard for and that’s where I get most of my confidence from, my preparation,” Denahy said.

“I was very confident, believed in myself, and afterwards, it makes victory so much sweeter once you’ve worked so hard for it. I was very happy with how I fought and how it turned out.”

Soon Denahy will head to Thailand until 28 July for an open tournament.

“I’ll be competing back at 60 kilograms, because 57 kilograms is only a weight class for Olympic pathway events. It’ll be an awesome experience, my first international tournament.”

When he returns, an AIS camp in August will prepare him for September’s World Championships in Russia, having qualified as a result of the national win.

The road to Russia will be an expensive one for Denahy. He encourages Ballarat to follow him on Instagram via @jackdenahy to discover how to support him.
