BALLARAT’S first e-sports tournament was hosted by Ballarat City Football Club across Saturday to celebrate the team’s season launch.

Between their real matches outside, gamers young and more experienced, gathered upstairs at Morshead Park, playing soccer on PlayStation 4 and also and local indie-game Drone Legion on PC, which were streamed live online via video platform, Twitch.

Director of football, James Robinson said BCFC had realigned their vision as the elite representative team of Western Victoria, and the e-sports tournament was part of an inclusive strategy.

Having previously worked at the A-League’s Brisbane Roar, Mr Robinson was drawn back to Ballarat because of the community minded way things are done and wanted BCFC to reflect that.

The club is hoping to use football as a vehicle to create ongoing relationships with the community this season and beyond.

Six more club days including e-sports are to come through the season. Head to ballaratcityfc.com.au to keep up to date.
