Burra keen to keep it rolling against Roos

July 14, 2022 BY

Due?: The 2019 grand final was the last time East Point got a senior win over Sebastopol, and with the Roos sitting second and the Burra fifth, it’ll all be on the line again this Saturday. Photo: FILE

Sebastopol v East Point

The Marty Busch will be rocking as the Burra moved back inside the McDonalds Ballarat Football Netball League top six with a dominant win over Redan on the weekend.

Now they host East Point this weekend and they haven’t lost to the Roos since the 2019 grand final.

It’s an even match-up across the board with the Kangas struggling to stop Tony Lockyer and Lachlan Cassidy in the past few occasions and Jordan Johnston being well watched from the likes of Hugo Paspt and Grady Snowden.

The one thing East Point will have in their favour is centre clearance dominance with Matt Johnston, Jackson Merrett and Mickijta Rotumah-Onus again amongst the best this past weekend for the visitors.

Prediction: East Point by 12 points.

Melton South v Bacchus Marsh

Psychologically the Panthers have the wood over the Marsh with this week another opportunity for the Melton South to put a damper in the final’s footy aspirations of Tom German’s men.

Upstaged the past two occasions, Bacchus will be desperate to re-write those wrongs as they travel to the Melton Recreation Reserve.

Big Man Dan Burton is expected to miss the again and with Dylan Jones being the competition’s standout ruckman there is a recipe here for another Marsh boilover.

Prediction: Melton South in another upset.

Ballarat v Redan

Two of the Ballarat Football League’s oldest sides will go to battle as the Swans host the Lions this at Alfredton Oval.

Ballarat were gallant in defeat to East Point, who rose from the ashes to comeback and scramble a five point victory.

Josh Gibson played forward again, with some troublesome lower body injuries enabling him to be at full fitness means he could be ‘managed’ for this encounter.

Marcus Powling also made an early return, he should be in for a big afternoon with the Lions still lacking a designed number one ruckman with a season ending injury to Nathan Dunstan depleting their stocks.

Prediction: Ballarat in a tight one.

North Ballarat v Melton

Match of the Round with North Ballarat hosting the competition’s only undefeated side in the Melton Bloods in a mini finals preview at Mars Stadium.

With a tough run home for the Roosters, this one presents itself as a vital game to prove they are good enough and also knock off a side that’s, in old fashioned footy terms, due for a loss.

Although Melton won’t see it that way, with an average winning margin close to 10 goals it’s their season to lose in 2022 and this match offers another opportunity to make a big statement and win at the ground where they hope to lift the premiership come September.

Prediction: Melton by 24 points.

Sunbury v Darley

Danger game for the Devils when they travel to Clarke Oval to take on a Lions outfit that has made massive strides in improvement over the past three weeks.

Since coming off the Queen’s Birthday bye, Sunbury have come within a kick to East Point and Ballarat, and last weekend obliterated cellar dwellers Lake Wendouree to record their second victory of the season.

Jake Sutton was particularly dangerous with another five goals on the weekend and now presenting a tricky match-up for Darley’s defence.

The Devils regained veteran Darren Leonard on the weekend and he could be the obvious match-up for Sutton, with Matt Brett out with a calf injury and a 50/50 to return.

Prediction: Darley in a flip of the coin.
