EUREKA Cycling returned to ‘racing’ on Sunday, 21 November after a three-month COVID induced break.

The members only event was well received with 20 odd riders out having a spin on the Vic Park crit course.

James Knipe mentored the women’s group and soon had them rolling turns in the windy conditions.

Knipe maintained control and gradually increased the speed with Jennifer Collier, Julie Connellan, Helen McIntosh and new member Renee Clapham all managing the extra pressure.

At two laps to go the field stretched when the lead out riders increased the pace again.

At the bell it looked a race in two with Collier and Clapham being paced to the sprint finish. In Home straight and Clapham packed too many guns in her debut criterium event.

The other two divisions made their own fun on the day, with daring attacks, high speeds and much light-hearted banter.

The club president was heard to ask the race commissaire ‘Can you invoke the mercy rule?’ while Shane Clarke was tearing away to yet another criterium win at Victory Park.
