TWENTY Eureka Cycling Club members enjoyed criterium racing in glorious sunshine on Sunday, 28 November.

The eight riders in Division 2 had a tactical race with many changes of pace throughout – which kept everyone alert.

For all their efforts, the race came down to a sprint finish and Steven Crowe skipped away to a comfortable win from Shaun Martin and James Knipe.

Division 1 kept the pace high to nullify any attacks, which was warmly received by the seven riders who had all either ridden or raced in Saturday’s very windy conditions.

Another bunch sprint decided the final bragging rights of season 2021. Jason Hendry placed himself near the front of the pack, before accelerating to the lead early in the home straight. Dayne Pearce and Peter Gunston were gallant, but couldn’t close the gap to the Sprint Monster.

Many thanks to Graeme Parker for coaching the new riders in their training race. This event has proven popular at recent Eureka Cycling Club and also Ballarat Sebastopol CC criterium events, giving confidence to mature cyclists who are new to cycling.

Sunday was the final event for the year and the Club Aggregate medals were presented to the top three ranked riders at Eureka for the season, as well as the Winter Aggregate Race Series.

In a season cut in half due to the pandemic, it was reward for effort for Tony Mirabella and Peter Livitsanis who both featured on the podium in many races, as well as competing in almost every event that Eureka staged.
