FORMER Sandringham Sabres and current Kenyan national player Preston Bungei will call Selkirk Stadium home in the upcoming NBL1 South season.

The latest Miners men’s team signing said he can’t wait to hit the court with his new club.

“Ballarat has a rich tradition of winning and community support,” he said. “With the pandemic and only a limited number of fans at the games the past two years, I am excited to have the opportunity to play in front of the Miners’ fans.”

Men’s head coach Luke Sunderland is excited to be drawing up plays for the 27-year-old who averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and just over two assists last season.

“Preston will add great versatility on the court and great leadership and maturity off it,” Sunderland said.

“Everyone that has dealt with Preston speaks highly of him and I’m looking forward to him having a full season in the NBL1 South.

“Preston has experience at many levels all over the world and will greatly help our new group at both ends of the floor.”

Prior to last season, the 195-centermetre guard racked up valuable court time in Europe.

“I’m hoping to bring some of the experience and knowledge that I’ve gained while playing overseas,” Bungei said.

“I’m also wanting to bring my defence to the team, as I take pride in guarding the other team’s best player and making it as tough as I can for them.”
