A SMALL field raced in trying conditions on Sunday, 11 April at Learmonth for Eureka Cycling Club’s event.

The windswept Weatherboard circuit tested the will of all competitors, especially when it hailed on one side of the circuit while the sun shone down on the other side.

Paul Tabbitt and Dayne Pearce powered scratch to the front of the race after just 28 kilometres, adding Stu Brien and Tony Mirabella to their number along the way.

For the rest it was a battle just to finish the race.

Pearce launched for one-kilometre out from the finish, Mirabella surged past on the final hill just 400 metres from the line, but Tabbitt had all the answers and took the chequered flag ahead of Brien.

Next Sunday the Eureka races for the coveted Rising Sun Trophy at Mount Beckworth.

This event sees takings from the day donated to a local community group in the Learmonth district, while riders compete for a sash and prizes.

Weatherboard 50-kilometre handicap results – 1st – Paul Tabbitt (scratch), 2nd – Stu Brien (2 min), 3rd – Tony Mirabella (2 min), 4th – Dayne Pearce (scratch), 5th – Dean Wells (2 min). Fastest Time – Paul Tabbitt (scratch) in 1h 24m 45s, ave. 36kph.
