INVERMAY’S decisive win over Ballarat in Division 2 last Saturday has helped the club secure its position in the top four of the ladder.

The win in Ballarat Bowls Division Saturday Pennant action means the squad is just behind BMS in third, both on five wins for the season but separated by a couple of points.

All four Invermay Division 2 rinks enjoyed the home ground advantage and took the full 18 points on offer, putting the side ahead of the rest of the competition by two clear wins over Daylesford, Ballarat, City Oval and Sebastopol and with a margin of 20 points or more.

Club president and rink skip Paul Currie give direction.

“This year’s competition has been very even and tough and the win has helped the Club out heaps,” said Invermay president Paul Currie, hoping the run will continue and the side will be able to secure a finals berth later in the year.

On Saturday, Currie’s daughter Jordan joined her dad’s rink as his lead and played an excellent game that contributed to the successful outcome in their win over Ballarat’s Paul Slater’s foursome.

The week’s big winner for Invermay was Peter Shillington’s rink of Bill Gull, David Carlyle and Barry Wright that came home with a 31 shot victory over Ballarat’s Brett Forrest.

“Jarryd Evans rink has put in a strong consistent performance for the whole season winning all of their pennant games played so far this season,” Currie said.

The jubilation enjoyed at home was somewhat tempered by a loss on the road from the club’s Division 6 side.

They had travelled to Sebastopol and lost leaving the squad with only one win for the season so far and second last on the ladder.

Off the green Invermay is working on attracting new bowlers by promoting the safe and family friendly culture that the club shares along with the other groups using the community centre.

A barefoot bowls competition has just started at the club and Currie said interested people are welcome to visit the Invermay Facebook page to find out more.
