THE Learmonth Lakers celebrated in style following Robert Peskett’s three hundredth game as three of its four Ballarat District Bowls Division Saturday Pennant sides recorded good wins.

Both the club’s Premier and Division 5 sides played at home and enjoyed solid victories on Saturday.

Players in Division 5 head down the green for a change of ends.

The Premier squad had two rinks up and had a 14-shot win over Webbcona with the rink of Ross Powell losing by seven to Barry McArthur’s foursome.

“That the green played well all day with the occasional breeze off the lake challenging bowlers on a few occasions,” said Learmonth’s Mick Casey.

Playing in Graham Finlay’s Division 5 rink, Peskett was able to celebrate the milestone with a 10-shot win while the side overall had a 23-shot victory and with three rinks up over the visiting Ballarat North.

That means the Lakers are now in fifth position overall in what is a very tight race for Division 5, with only two points separating them team from second placed Midlands. Four of the top teams have recorded three wins so far this season while City Oval head the ladder having been successful in all their games.

Meanwhile, Learmonth’s Division 3 team travelled to Central Wendouree to record a 37-shot victory, splitting the rinks two-to-two, with Strong performances by Learmonth’s David Kelly and Mark Powell rinks assuring their side are also undefeated for the season.

Away over on the east side the Lakers Division 8 squad lost both rinks to the stronger Bungaree.

“Our club members enjoy getting back on the green to play pennant after the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions last month and, like most clubs, will be able to celebrate their Christmas function to be held after next Saturday’s pennant match,” Casey said.

“We are now in a position to run our normal club tournaments in the New Year which we will start planning for straight after Christmas”.
