ESSENDON great Matthew Lloyd has reiterated his stance on the club’s review, saying only an external audit of all facets of the club will uncover what is currently going wrong.

The Bombers slumped to a 10-point loss at the hands of West Coast on Friday night, the Eagles’ first win in nine attempts.

Essendon has recently launched a review, which will be headed by football director Sean Wellman.

Lloyd said the review, which at this stage is being conducted internally, needed external voices to truly find out the root of the club’s problem.

The champion forward said he wasn’t sure what an internal review would achieve at the underperforming club.

“They need to look deeper and find out what is going wrong,” Lloyd said on Sportsday.

“I look at some of the teams that are growing, what Collingwood, Fremantle and Carlton have done, they are improving.

“Hawthorn are on four wins, Adelaide are on five wins and Essendon are on three wins.

“I made it about Ben Rutten [on the Sunday Footy Show]… because I don’t like the way they’re playing, but I’m big on this not being an internal review and massive on it being an external review.

“Suddenly [if it’s an external review] the CEO can be reviewed, the coach and assistant coaches and the whole administration needs to be looked at.

“It might come out that the coach is coaching okay… but the way they’re doing it now, I’m not sure what they’re trying to achieve.”
