The return of the WARS

COOL and windy conditions challenged the mettle of the competitors on Sunday, 15 August at Learmonth as Eureka Cycling resumed the Europa Cafe Winter Aggregate Race Series, or WARS, with round eight of the competition.

The club trialled a new variation of some old-time favourite circuits, which proved popular amongst the riders, especially as the sun shone throughout the entire event.

Amy Benham broke away from the limit group and established an early lead, however the middle markers would not be denied.

Peter Livitsanis is somewhat of a specialist in windy conditions, and he proved so once again, by organising his troops perfectly to hold off the hordes.

Club handicapper Graeme Parker delivered another perfect set of marks, which saw Livitsanis and cohort Darryn Reed hold on by less than a minute to the fast finishing Tim Canny, Jason Hendry and Tony Mirabella.

Europa Cafe WARS – round 8 results – 37-kilometre handicap – 1st – Peter Livitsanis (12 min), 2nd – Darryn Reed (12 min), 3rd – Tim Canny (scratch), 4th – Jason Hendry (scratch), 5th – Tony Mirabella (3 min).

Ride of the day – Amy Benham (17 min). Fastest Time – Tim Canny (scratch) in 54m 15s, ave, 40.7kph.
