Reel wonders
FROM snowboarding in Antarctica to mountain biking in the Dolomites, a world of adventure awaits at the Banff Mountain Film Festival at Brunswick Picture House on May 15 and 16.
Seven films will screen as part of this year’s festival, which is held each autumn in the mountain town where it originated in Alberta, Canada before setting off on a world tour.

In the French film Of a Lifetime, the De Le Rue snowboarding family embark on an adventure to Antarctica on a sailing boat to explore the terrain of the white continent, while in Dolomites, French mountain biker Kilian Bron and his team push the limits of what’s possible on two wheels, following ancient war-time paths and razor thin ridgelines.

Mountain biking also features in The Streif, which sees Red Bull-sponsored Fabio Wibmer ride down a World Cup ski course in his homeland, turning it into his own personal stunt arena.
109° Below follows the daring rescue of two climbers who became engulfed in a blizzard at Mount Washington in the United States, and how it changes the lives of them and their saviours, while 2 Legs is Too Easy showcases the extraordinary adventures of Steve Karczewski, who was born with bone cancer in his left leg and underwent a knee amputation as a child, in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains.

In Wolf of Wingsuit, American wingsuit pilot Avalon Wolf teams up with a Filipino-Australian documentary filmmaker to perform daring stunts among the peaks of Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland, pushing the limits of human flight to the extreme.
