BANGALOW Film Festival was postponed in the wake of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred due to safety concerns.

Event organisers were instructed by Byron Shire Council and emergency services to delay the event, which was scheduled to take place from March 6 to 16.

Festival founder and director Christian Pazzaglia said he would announce new dates as soon as possible, with all tickets transferable.

“We are sending love to everyone in the Northern Rivers and look forward to bringing the magic of cinema to Bangalow very soon,” he said.

The 2025 program was set to feature more than 20 screenings, plus various other events including live performances and a two-day program of industry panels presented in partnership with the Byron Writers Festival and Screenworks.

Acclaimed director Rolf De Heer, whose credits include The Tracker, Ten Canoes and Charlie’s Country, was among those scheduled to speak at the event.

His wife Molly Reynolds, who wrote and directed My Name is Gulpilil about Indigenous actor David Gulpilil shortly before his death, was also on the line-up, along with much-loved Australian actor Gary Sweet and Mystery Road star Aaron Pedersen.
