NOMINATIONS are open for community members and volunteers to be recognised at the NSW Seniors Festival’s Local Senior of the Year Awards.
Ballina MP Tamara Smith said the awards were about recognising quiet achievers and people who make valuable contributions to the community.
Award winners can be chosen for community service efforts, healthy living, cultural or creative achievements, and lifelong dedication to charities and groups.
“We are fortunate to have so many seniors in our local community who are generous with their time, energy and commitment,” she said.
“From volunteering in local organisations to mentoring younger generations and supporting neighbours, seniors contribute immeasurably to the strength, kindness and resilience of our region.”
“If you know a senior who goes above and beyond whether through their community service, creativity, innovation or simple acts of care, now is the time to nominate them for this well-deserved recognition.”
Previously known as the NSW Seniors Local Achievement Awards, the Local Senior of the Year Awards highlight the diverse ways older people enrich their communities.
This year’s theme, Live Life in Colour, encourages embracing creativity, new connections and an active lifestyle.
One of the festival’s major events, the Seniors Expo, will be held at the International Convention Centre in Sydney.
It features exhibitors and representatives from travel groups and animal rescue organisations, along with health, home and lifestyle support.
There will also be free exercise classes, workshops, gala nights and comedy shows, attracting international performers.
Nominations close on Friday, January 16, with hard copy forms available at Ms Smith’s office on Moon Street. The NSW Seniors Festival runs from March 2 to 15.
