Champion bowlers invited to compete for prestigious Golden Nugget at Club Tweed

SOME of Australia’s most decorated bowlers, along with international stars, will compete at Club Tweed in the prestigious Golden Nugget invitational tournament.

It will be held from 27–30 July with world champions, Commonwealth Games medallists and national titleholders among the field of 24.

This year’s field includes defending men’s champion Jack McShane, two-time Golden Nugget winner and two-time World Champion of Champions gold medallist Lee Schraner, seven-time Australian Open singles champion Aron Sherriff and New Zealand’s Aiden Takarua.

The women’s draw features Australian champions Chloe Morrison, Chloe Stewart and Jessie Cottell, alongside international representatives Briar Atkinson from New Zealand, Switzerland’s Laura Butler and Malaysia’s Nurul Alyani Binti Jamil.

Club Tweed chair Leigh Tynan said the event has been running for 39 years and is one of the signature tournaments on the Bowls Australia calendar.

“Once again it is an outstanding field assembled this year featuring popular local, national and international bowlers,” he said.

“We are very proud of our high-profile status, both nationally and internationally.

 

“Live streaming will be available so that many more here and overseas can follow their favourite bowlers.”

Competitors will play a round-robin format before the leading players advance to the knockout rounds, with the men’s and women’s finals scheduled for Thursday 30 July.

Winners in each division will take home $7,000 in prizemoney.

The tournament opens with a meet the players and official draw on Sunday 26 July.

There will also be 48 bowlers competing in the junior Golden Nugget, with Club Tweed’s Lily Vardy among the field.
