An Education with Deep Roots and Broad Horizons
AT RedGum – The Waldorf School of Central Victoria – education begins with a simple yet powerful belief: in an age overflowing with information, schools must help children develop the foundations for wisdom.
Set on a beautiful bush campus in Muckleford, RedGum offers an education that is unplugged yet deeply connected.
RedGum provides a rich, contemporary Waldorf education that grows with students as they develop. Alongside a structured and purposeful academic curriculum, students engage in a dynamic program of Music and Visual Arts, Environmental and Outdoor Education, Language, Movement and Handcrafts.
While our curriculum explores history and the evolution of technologies in depth, students are not exposed to digital devices for learning in the Primary years.
Instead, they learn from an environment grounded in art, books and nature. In our Senior School, technology is introduced – building on stronger analytical foundations and supporting learning that is relevant to the world students are stepping into.
This year, our community has much to celebrate. RedGum has been recognised as School of Change 2026, acknowledging the long-term impact of our sustainability leadership and our partnership with North Central CMA through the River Detectives program.
For years, our students have acted as citizen scientists – testing water quality, observing ecosystems and learning directly from local landscapes. This work deepens their understanding of Country and strengthens ecological literacy across the school.
As a 5-Star ResourceSmart School, RedGum has woven sustainability into everyday practice -from waste reduction and energy efficiency to biodiversity care and outdoor learning.
These efforts enrich our curriculum and nurture a culture where children learn with each other, from each other and about each other, growing in responsibility, creativity and social awareness.
A highlight of our school is our gentle, developmentally aligned Prep program. We recognise that a child’s first year of school shapes their relationship with learning, so we provide an unhurried, warm transition.
As children graduate from our Kinder program, they enter a Prep year that is play-based, imaginative and hands-on, with a calm daily rhythm that supports emotional security, independence and joyful curiosity.

It provides a natural bridge between early childhood and formal academic learning – where play fosters imagination, and imagination lays the foundation for reasoning.
At RedGum, we love to share our learning and our beautiful grounds with the community.
