Crusoe College Focuses on Connection Through “Real” Program
CRUSOE College is continuing to develop its “Real” program, a four-year advisory initiative designed to prioritise student wellbeing and practical learning.
The program aims to move beyond standard classroom instruction by focusing on Real Learning and Real Connections and addressing community challenges through direct conversation.
At the centre of the school’s approach is the principle of Unconditional Positive Regard. This framework ensures that support for students remains consistent, regardless of the academic or social hurdles they may face.

To encourage positive participation, the school utilises a Commendation system. Students earn points for effort and character, which can then be used at the Real Reward Shop. It is a straightforward way to recognise day-to-day progress and keep students engaged with their own growth.
Recognising that break times can be difficult for some, the college has established a variety of supervised lunchtime activities. These clubs are designed to be inclusive, providing a space for students to connect over shared hobbies rather than just navigating the playground.
The current weekly schedule includes:
•Themed Days: Mindful Monday and Wellbeing Wednesday.
•Active Clubs: Drama Club and Skittle Squad.
•Strategy & Gaming: Chess Club and D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) Club.

The four-year advisory model ensures that students stay with the same mentor throughout their time at the college. This consistency allows staff to better understand a student’s individual background and educational goals, making the transition through secondary school more manageable.
By focusing on these practical connections and interest-based learning, Crusoe College aims to create an environment where every student feels they have a place and a purpose.
