MUDBRICK Motley Theatre has received a SPROUT Arts Grant through City of Greater Bendigo Creative Communities program.

The $500 grant will assist with advertising, lighting, sound equipment and venue hire for the group’s upcoming comedy production of The Old People are Revolting.

Mudbrick Motley Theatre was founded by Maree Hingston in 2005.

Hingston, who is production manager, assistant director and a performer said the group was very grateful for the assistance.

“This has given everyone a huge boost,” she said. “Most of our cast members are locals who have never been involved in a stage production before.

The cast of The Old People are Revolting are all enjoying rehearsals for the upcoming play.

“It is the aim of Mudbrick Motley to foster a love of theatre and give experience to interested community members.

“We are pleased to have Don White as our director, an experienced performer who works with Kyneton Bluestone Theatre.

“Don is also the costume supervisor and is loaning us some very special costumes.”

The cast has been rehearsing the Devon Williamson play since April.

“It will be a rehearsed reading performance,” said Hingston, who has been involved in acting and theatre for more than 40 years.

“At each weekly rehearsal we mentor the cast and explain various skills. Our cast members have learned a great deal.

“This production will be the fruition of a dream to make Heathcote laugh again.”

Linda Cornelissen is playing the role of Elizabeth.

“I’ve never acted before, but I am loving every minute of it,” she said.

The Old People are Revolting will be presented at the RSL Hall on Sunday 22 September.
