AFTER five months of planning, the inaugural Gratitude Day, raising funds for Heathcote SES and CFA is almost here.
Coinciding with the Winter Solstice, event convenor Maree Hingston is hoping the shortest day will bring a big day of fundraising.
“Although 21 June is the Winter Solstice and the shortest day of our year, we are hoping the day will develop into the longest and most productive day of fundraising for our emergency services,” Hingston said.
“We are hoping that those attending will be prepared to use their cash or cards to buy tickets in our raffle which has some great prizes donated by our local businesses and wineries.
“We will also hold a silent auction with some fantastic items.
“We are grateful to those who have already pledged their support, including local businesses such as Gaffney’s Bakery, The Commercial Hotel, She-Oak Hill Winery, Heathcote Winery, Chauncey and Empire South.
“There have also been gifts from generous individuals, but we need more donations of goods and services, gift vouchers and even discounted memberships from local businesses.
“A QR code on our program will ensure donations go directly into the emergency services account at our local Bendigo Bank.”
Entertainment throughout the day will include popular local band The Tuans, Heathcote Ukulele Group (H.U.G.) and Amanda Collins and Dave Munro.

“A concert featuring talented local artists including Adrian Harris and Tess Ryan, will commence at 2pm,” Hingston said.
“We will screen a video during the afternoon showing the work emergency service volunteers undertake to assist our local community.
“Fifteen tables have been reserved through the community house which will provide boxed lunches of tasty snacks and slices for a small donation.
“To reserve a table of eight, call the Heathcote Community House on 5433 2820 and you will receive eight free tickets in our table prize draw.”
Gratitude Day will be held on 21 June at the RSL hall from noon to 5pm. Entry is free.
