LOCAL café Fodder was recently approved to be included in the Catering for Good Directory.
Owners Mohan Pun and his sister Lalita purchased the café in 2024.
Mr Pun was assisted by Ella OBree, Health Promotions Officer at Heathcote Health to negotiate the criteria for inclusion in the directory.
“After a lengthy process of getting Fodder’s menu and business social impact practices assessed, they are being acknowledged for their commitment to creating a healthier Heathcote,” said Ms OBree.
“I would love to let the community know about the Catering for Good Directory, that Fodder has plenty of healthy options, and to remind local organisations how important it is to provide healthy catering for events and meetings.
“The Catering for Good Directory, is a state-wide initiative developed by the Healthy Eating Advisory Service in collaboration with the Department of Health.
“Its primary goal is to assist Victorian workplaces and organisations to find catering services and food options that prioritise health, sustainability, and community support.
“The directory highlights healthier menu options and certified social enterprises.”

To be listed on the Directory, catering organisations needs to meet criteria such as being located in Victoria, being able to deliver catering in Victoria, and to complete FoodChecker menu assessments.
The Directory is a free online platform connecting catering organisations with government departments and other organisations looking for healthy and sustainable food options.
Users are able to find healthier and more sustainable catering options and support caterers who provide social and environmental benefits for the community.
Mr Pun credits Ms OBree with doing much of the work for Fodder to be included in the directory.
“Ella did 99 percent of the work,” he said.
“She introduced me to the concept and assisted in helping us to be assessed. She was very supportive.
“I think it is a great idea, and we are very pleased to be included.
“We have lots of healthy options on our menu and we will also be available to cater for special events and functions with special menus.”
Mr Pun was born in Nepal and moved to Australia in 2008.
“Before moving to Heathcote I worked for ten years as a chef in Ascot Vale,” he said.
“We love Heathcote. Everybody knows everybody, and everyone gathers around ready to help each other.”
Fodder is situated at 74 High Street Heathcote and is open from 7am to 3pm every day.
