WITH the onset of winter and cooler weather, Heathcote Community House is again running a Safe Use and Maintenance of Chainsaws for Absolute Beginners session.

The course is subsidised by the City of Greater Bendigo Flood Recovery Assistance Fund.

“It is such a privilege to have Ceilidh Meo of Zap Studio to facilitate the workshop,” said community house executive officer, Vicki Forde.

“Ceilidh is an amazing facilitator, showing people important safety and basic maintenance needs for operating chainsaws.”

The course is an introductory session on the safe use and maintenance of chainsaws and no experience is necessary.

As well as learning safe and effective chainsaw techniques, participants will also find out where and how to collect free firewood in the local area.

“People learn vital skills that can be life saving in times of storms and flooding,” said Ms Forde.

“Some may consider joining and helping out such amazing volunteer organisations like the SES.

“Also, of course, they gain a great knowledge skill set for cleaning up their own properties and preparing them in case of bushfires.

“Participants will find out how and where to chop their own firewood to keep warm for winter and help out others who need support with this as well.”

The course will be held on Saturday 11 May from 10am to 3pm.

Cost is $30 per person with refreshments provided.

Bookings can be made through Heathcote Community House on 5431 0930 weekdays from 9am to 3pm.
