Event about being ready for anything

THE City of Greater Bendigo is set to host an upcoming workshop on disaster preparedness.

Part of the Safer Together Program, the event is called Building Resilience for a City in a Forest and the workshop aims to get a better understanding of community emergency readiness and safety.

Manager of community partnerships for the City, Andie West, said the workshop is part of trying to get an idea of needs and actions during emergencies, such as bushfires.

“This information will help develop a community-centred approach to emergency preparedness and allow the partners in this project to identify what resources and tools are needed and identify achievable solutions and actions,” she said.

Participants will have the opportunity to share whether they have a bushfire plan, where to access resources and assistance, and their reasons for being prepared or lack thereof.

The Safer Together program seeks to put together resources for the community’s most vulnerable.

It aims to find obstacles and gaps in emergency preparedness and comes through a collaboration between the Country Fire Authority, the municipality, and Bendigo Community Health Services.

The workshop will also aim to help improve preparedness, build community resilience to disasters, and take part in realistic scenarios.

Participants will also explore solutions and programs while learning about local initiatives.

Registration for the workshop can be made through the City’s Let’s Talk Greater Bendigo website by Friday 23 June.

Those unable to attend can contribute by completing a survey available on the website until Monday 31 July.

The workshop is set for Saturday 24 June from 10am to 3pm at the Julie-Anna Inn on Napier Street in Bendigo.
