Heathcote Brownie Guides will resume on Tuesday with a special pancake night.

All girls aged 8-11 are welcome at the Guide Hall from 3.30pm to 5pm.

“As we start back for 2024 on Shrove Tuesday, we are going to cook pancakes,” said leader Laraine Leask.

“After that, the girls can contribute to the planning and let us know what they want to do each week.

“They are all fantastic and come up with some great ideas. Leading up to the show in November we make decorated saucers and the girls love cooking.

“One thing I always teach them is how to tie a reef knot. I tell them that if you can tie a reef knot, you’ll use it all through your life.”

Ms Leask said that like many organisations the girl guides struggled during COVID.

“We’re only now getting our straps back together. We have about 12 regulars and new members are always welcome.

“Guides is really good for girls. It empowers women and that’s our motto. The lessons learnt will stay with the girls all their lives.

“We are flexible but we have a few rules and everyone learns to work together as a group.

“There have been some terrific girls involved over the years and I know they all remember the good times they had at Guides.”

Ms Leask is assisted by Sian Virgona and they start each session with something to eat and drink before moving on to an activity.

If anyone would like to join, they can call Ms Leask on 0408 036 520 or come to the Guide Hall on Tuesday.
