New committee looking forward to their first carols
HEATHCOTE Christmas Carols committee received a huge response to the call for performers at this year’s annual Community Carols.
The committee is in its first year after Heathcote Lions Club passed the baton following many years of organising.
“We had an outstanding response which is wonderful,” said committee member Hannah Thomson.
“The event will be emceed by the fabulous Tania Malavisi who has been a staple for the carols for many years.
“There will be performances by both local primary schools as well as both kindergartens.
“We have a variety of vocal and instrumental pieces from local music students.
“Adult musicians will be performing with several different instruments including saxophone, bagpipes, guitar, piano, and even uilleann pipes.
“Heathcote Ukulele Group will be there, and we are lucky enough to have Marist Brass Band attending who will be playing between each act.”
Santa will make an appearance thanks to the Heathcote CFA and will have a special treat for the children.
“We’re extremely thankful to the Heathcote Lions Club who have worked tirelessly in bringing the carols to the community for many years,” said Ms Thomson.
“The Lions have been a great support to me, Mariah McCarthy and Tania Malavisi, the current new committee, in our first year of organising the event, answering all of our questions and pointing us in the right direction.
“Heathcote Community Bank is generously sponsoring the event to the value of $2000 and the committee would like to offer a special thank you to their customers, without whom sponsorships like this wouldn’t be possible.
“We would also like to thank Mandalay Resources for their kind sponsorship of $500 towards the event.
“Wright’s Transport is kindly providing the stage and Rob from RTM Electrics has generously given much of his time.
“We would love to see as many people as possible attend the performance which starts at 5.30pm on Saturday 7 December at Barrack Reserve.”
