Tooborac playgroup fires up
TOOBORAC Playgroup had a visit from the local CFA fire truck this week.
Children enjoyed getting on board, hearing the siren and talking to CFA volunteers.
Facilitator Janita Dundon began the playgroup session with special fire truck themed songs while the children eagerly awaited the siren signalling the firefighters’ arrival.
First time attendee Lucy Runnalls from Heathcote said she was pleased at the welcome she received.
“I heard about the fire truck visit and my sons Roy and Francis love singing so we decided to come along,” she said.
“It’s a great opportunity to meet people and chat with other mothers.”
Ms Dundon plans each session around a special theme and incorporates singing, a story, play time and bubbles.
“They all love bubbles,” she said, “and we finish with a cuppa and a chat so everyone can get to know each other.
“Next week our theme is space and the following week it will be animals.
“We are really pleased with how the numbers are growing each week. The community support has been fantastic.
“We have families coming from Heathcote, Pyalong and Broadford as well as locals joining us.”
After Tooborac Primary School was deemed non-operational this year due to lack of enrolments, Tooborac Primary School Community Action Group was formed to encourage future enrolments and constructive use of the school premises.
“The playgroup has been a great success,” said group member Sue Anderson. “Janita is doing a wonderful job in organising the sessions each week.
“Week by week the numbers are increasing, and the community support is amazing. It is really good to see the building being used.
“The community is working with the education department to encourage future enrolments and the future direction of the school over the coming years.”The Tooborac Playgroup meets on Tuesdays at the school from 9.15am. Infants to preschool aged children and their families are welcome. For further information contact Ms Dundon on 0409 857 764.
