Wine and dine as Heathcote goes on show

FOUR of the region’s wineries are holding special events as part of their Heathcote on Show offerings on the upcoming King’s Birthday weekend.

On the Saturday at Munari Wines A Midwinter’s Night event is on the menu and it includes an evening of music, wine, food and campfires.

Return buses are available from Bendigo and Heathcote and the cover charge includes entertainment, with wine available by the glass or bottle and dinner from their food truck.

At Sanguine Estate there’s a rare museum wine tasting session on Saturday and a goldfield’s cheese and wine matching session on Sunday with lunch also available for participants.

Meanwhile Wren Estate is the place for an Asian-inspired feast with a three-course traditional Peking Duck lunch on Saturday and potsticker dumplings being served up on both Saturday and Sunday.

Finally, Tellurian Wines invites festival goers to a two-course dinner with the winemaker Tobias Anstead and owner Ian Hopkins on Saturday and Sunday.

Mr Hopkins said the offering was a continuation of an ongoing tradition at the winery over the long weekend.

“Last year we did it in the cellar door but we’re back to the barrel room,” he said.

“There’s a unique ambience where the barrels in their racks are stacked up along either side of the table and decorative lighting creates a warm atmosphere.

“We’re able to heat the barrel room so it’s nice and cosy.

“It’s a long table for about 30 people on each of the two nights and it really creates a tremendously convivial atmosphere.”
