DUAL premiership-winning coach Cam Carter will return to Mount Pleasant to guide the senior footy side for the 2024 Bendigo Bank Heathcote DFNL season.

Carter’s previous stint at Mounts from 2005 to 2008 included back-to-back premiership victories in 2005 and 2006.

He returns to Toolleen as the Blues chase a 21st senior grand final victory.

“We are excited to have Cam back at the club to build on our momentum of the past six years,” co-president Phil Whiting said.

“There is a lot of change after this year’s grand final victory.

“The latest premiership was built on the hard work and support of Darren Walsh, Adam Baird and Ben Weightman.

“We are thankful for what these legends brought to us, and how they set us up for success.

“Now the challenge is to continue to build on that success.”

Carter’s coaching includes stints at three clubs across central Victoria.

He also had assistant coaching roles with the Bendigo Pioneers.

“Many of our current players won’t know Cam, but a lot of their dads do from playing in premierships with him,” co-president Chris Nihill said.

“Cam will provide a new voice for our players and start with a clean slate,” said Whiting.

The Blues’ premiership team of 2023 included 15 players who had played at under-18s level for the club.

“The average age of our senior list is 22, so there is still plenty of room for improvement,” Whiting said.

“For a lot their best footy is still to be played.”
