WEEKEND pennant for teams across the Bendigo leg of Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields bowls resumes this Saturday afternoon.
Leaders in the division two premiership race, Heathcote, will play on Strathfieldsaye’s greens from 1.30pm.
When these clubs met in round four it was the Saints who triumphed 16-84 to 2-71 on Heathcote’s turf.
A win-loss tally of 9-1 has put Heathcote, which won last season’s division three premiership, on top spot of division two at four rounds to go in the home-and-away series.
It’s a must-win match for Heathcote in its division six match at home against Woodbury.
Back in round four it was a draw as Woodbury and Heathcote were locked on 64 shots after the final bowl at Bendigo Club in Strathdale.
The Saints roll into this Saturday’s match in sixth place, eight points adrift of the fifth-placed Woodbury and 13 behind fourth-placed Kangaroo Flat.
Midweek pennant resumes next Monday at 10am.
The fourth-placed Saints take on the ladder-leading White Hills in the Demons’ den in Bosquet Street.
Wet weather meant the Saints and Demons did not contest the round five match at Heathcote on 3 November.
The Saints rolled into the break for Christmas and New Year by scoring a two-shot win at home against Castlemaine.
A top contest ended in a 12-49 to 4-47 victory for the red, white and black.
A field of 16 played three games of pairs and triples in last Saturday’s warm and windy weather.
Winners were Chris Morcom (s) and Karen Royal, three wins, 45 points, +17 shots.
Runners-up were Eileen O’Brien (s) and John Hepburn, two wins, one draw, 38 points, +13 shots, from Dave Thomas (s), Barry Summers and Richard Edwards, two wins, 33 points, +11 shots.
Extreme heat led to social bowls planned for 7 January being cancelled.
Tuesday Night Social Pennant resumed this week.
The Australia Day Charity Day triples tournament to support Heathcote Community House will be run on Monday 26 January from 10am.
Entries can be put on the form in the clubrooms.
