THE showdown between the Saints and Demons at Heathcote’s Pigeon Park is among the highs of this Saturday’s eighth round in Agnico Eagle Fosterville Gold Mine Heathcote DFNL senior footy.
Heathcote faces White Hills on the Barrack Reserve turf from 2.20pm.
Both teams are on the rebound from defeat.
After wins at Colbinabbin and then against Elmore at home, Heathcote was overrun in the final quarter of last Saturday’s match at North Bendigo.
Two points separated the Saints and Bulldogs at the start of the last quarter.
North Bendigo slammed on 11.1 in the final term to complete a 138-88 victory.
The Saints’ attack was led by Dylan Johnstone and Sean Williams on three goals.
A Heathcote team coached by Andrew Saladino, non-playing, and Liam Jacques, playing, will be determined to bounce back and strengthen its place in the top five.
A win-loss tally of three-three has Heathcote in fifth as Mount Pleasant, 26 points; Colbinabbin, 20; and Lockington Bamawm United, 16, lead the way.
Beating the Demons will not be an easy task.
The Brad McConnell and Lachie Sawyer-coached White Hills started the season with wins against Huntly and LBU.
It’s third against second as Lockington Bamawm United faces Colbinabbin at Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval.
The Jayden Howe-coached LBU is fresh off the bye, but faces a massive task to beat the Linton Jacobs-coached Grasshoppers.
Another big match on Saturday will be at Gunbower where Leitchville Gunbower takes on North Bendigo.
Sixth takes on fourth, but these teams are separated by just two points.
The Joel Donehue-coached LG Bombers won at Elmore by 41 points last round as Darcy Elliott, Nic Cattapan and Xavier Colvin led the way.
Huge test for the Bombers defenders against the in-form Dylan Klemm, Cody Riddick and Jake Dean who lead the attack for a Bulldogs team coached by Robbie Bennett, non-playing, and Ryan Hartley, playing.
The Harlowe Huntly Hawks will eye their home clash with Elmore at Strauch Reserve as a great chance to break their winless run.
Huntly’s coached by Hamish Morcom and the Bloods by Luke Freeman.
Mount Pleasant has the bye.
