Embrace your body

February 17, 2024 BY

2023 Australian of the Year and body image powerhouse Taryn Brumfitt is on a mission to help young people learn how to embrace their bodies, and it is up to all of us to help lead this change.

School and community leaders, sports club captains, passionate change advocates, social justice warriors or those who could do with an empowerment boost are invited to attend a free event in Mount Gambier on Tuesday, March 19.

The ACTIVATE event is part of Taryn’s campaign and comes off the back of disturbing statistics, including 77 per cent of young Australians report body image distress.

Accredited Mount Gambier dietician Nikita Wasson is hoping the community will embrace this opportunity.

“By creating change in the environments where young people live, learn and play, we can achieve better mental and physical health outcomes for our youth – setting them up for a lifetime free of judgement and shame about their bodies,” Nikita said.

“You, and up to 10 of your Year 6-9 leaders, are invited to a free full-day event where young people will learn to move, nourish, appreciate and be kind to your bodies in a fun, empowering setting.”

This full-day immersive experience includes:

  • An exclusive screening of the EMBRACE KIDS film
  • Breakout sessions with subject area experts for age-appropriate education and deeper engagement
  • Stakeholder engagement session for parents, educators (PD opportunity), sporting club coaches and/or adult community leaders
  • Participation in the creation of an art piece to leave a long-lasting reminder of the Embrace message in your community

Each attendee will be given Embrace Kids materials to take back to their communities where they can create change, helping all young people feel comfortable and confident in their bodies.
