LAST month, Mount Gambier High School’s senior dance cohort lit up the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre with their spectacular showcase, “UNLEASHED.”

The event drew an audience of families, friends, and community members, all eager to support this new generation of performers.

The evening featured a stunning array of solos, duets, and group performances, spanning contemporary, commercial hip-hop, jazz, and lyrical styles.

From the opening act, the energy on stage was electric; students demonstrated technical prowess, creativity, and sheer joy in performance, with each dancer proudly owning their unique style and contribution.

The Year 9–12 dancers displayed remarkable talent and passion.

Many of the students involved do not dance outside of school, a testament to the supportive and inclusive environment cultivated at Mount Gambier High School.

The showcase included powerful storytelling, visually striking formations, and original student choreography, culminating in performances that were moving, memorable, and deeply personal.

The school is especially proud of the way students embraced creative risk, grew both individually and as a team, and brought their visions to life on the professional stage.

Audience members described the night as incredible, captivating and a true celebration of the talent and hard work in our school community.

Behind the scenes, students played a vital role in all aspects of the production—lighting, costuming, promotion, and event logistics—developing transferable skills and building confidence to take forward beyond school.

Teacher and event organiser Kim Cella said Unleashed was more than a dance performance.

“It’s about students finding their voice and supporting one another—celebrating diversity, creativity, and passion,” she said. “Watching students grow from apprehensive beginners into confident performers, willing to push limits and put themselves out there, is the ultimate reward.”

Parent Alex Tronvsky said watching the students perform with such energy and commitment was truly inspiring.

“You could see how much being part of Unleashed meant to them, and as a parent, it’s wonderful to witness how the school supports students to not just learn new skills, but to step up and shine on stage,” he said.

Mount Gambier High School extends its thanks to Hype Dance Studio for rehearsal support, families for their ongoing encouragement, and the wider community for their applause and enthusiasm.
