For the love of reading
LOVE is in the air – and on the shelves – as Mount Gambier Library invites the community to celebrate Library Lovers’ Day.
Recognised annually across Australia, the celebration is a chance to show appreciation for libraries and the important role they play in connecting people with stories, information and each other.
This year, the library is extending the festivities across an entire week from Monday 9 February to Sunday, February 15, offering a variety of activities for all ages.
Library Programs Officer – Promotion and Events Faith Rees said Library Lovers’ Day was about celebrating more than just books – it’s about celebrating stories in all forms, and the role libraries play in supporting lifelong learning, creativity and community connection.
Throughout the week, visitors to the library can enjoy a range of themed activities, including Blind Date with a Book, Children’s Surprise Inside, DIY heart bookmark craft, Name That Cover competition and a Library Lovers–themed Storytime.
The celebration also continues online, with library lovers encouraged to visit Mount Gambier Library’s social media pages and enter a special competition.
Community members can share what they love most about the library for the chance to win a Kobo eReader.
Team Leader Children’s and Youth Services Erin Jones said all activities are free and open to everyone.
“We encourage the community to visit the library throughout the week, take part in the activities, share their love of libraries, and perhaps discover a new favourite story,” Mrs Jones said.
