Grant District Council exploring a rebrand
COUNCIL is seeking community input on an exciting proposal to change its name from District Council of Grant to Southern Limestone Coast Council.
The ‘Southern Limestone Coast Council’ name is the centrepiece of a broader branding review aimed at ensuring Council’s visual identity reflects the values of the organisation and the community at large.
District Council of Grant Mayor Kylie Boston noted that Council’s branding has remained unchanged since the Council was created through amalgamation in 1996.
“In light of our upcoming thirty-year anniversary, it became clear that council needs more than a fresh logo – this is an opportunity to forge ahead under a new name,” Mayor Boston said.
“’Southern Limestone Coast Council’ links us geographically to where we are and celebrates the abundance of natural resources that strengthens our community.”
Adelaide based creative agency Fuller were brought onto the project in mid-2025 through a successful expression of interest process.
Fuller have worked closely with elected members to put forward a brand concept around the Southern Limestone Coast name, and a Citizen’s Jury was held in March to further refine the logo, fonts, and colours.
The proposed logo is inspired by the geology of the region, from sinkholes to the rugged coastline. It also represents each of the gazetted townships and communities throughout the district, emphasising strength and unity.
A variation on this logo would also apply across council’s sites, namely the Mount Gambier & District Saleyards, Mount Gambier Regional Airport, and Port MacDonnell Community Complex. Currently, these sites have individual branding that is not easily linked back to the District Council of Grant.
Council is open to accepting alternative logo concepts from local artists or designers as part of the consultation process.
“It’s important that community members feel represented by the final product, and we encourage any residents or ratepayers in District Council of Grant to put forward their ideas,” Mayor Boston said.
The name change and brand identity update was approved for community consultation at the Ordinary Council Meeting on April 20 and will remain open for a period of six weeks.
A series of community drop-in sessions will be held across the district throughout the engagement period:
