Author Amanda Hampson is headed to Mount Gambier

AWARD–winning Australian author Amanda Hampson will visit Mount Gambier Library on Monday, April 27, at 6.30pm to launch her gripping new novel The Model Murder.

The Model Murder is Amanda’s 10th novel and the fourth instalment in the acclaimed Tea Ladies cosy crime series; now a nationwide sensation.

The series has received significant recognition, taking out the 2024 Danger Awards for Best Crime Fiction and earning shortlist honours in both the 2024 Davitt Awards for Best Adult Crime and the prestigious 2024 Ned Kelly Awards for Best Fiction.

City of Mount Gambier community development coordinator Kristi Brooks said cosy crime offers all the suspense of a great ‘whodunnit’, wrapped in warmth, humour and richly drawn characters.

“The mystery keeps you guessing, but the tone remains delightfully light, without the graphic violence or strong language,” Kristi said.

Set in Sydney in 1968, The Model Murder plunges into a world of fashion houses, theatre groups, back-street bookmakers and dangerous secrets.

When a young man is shot dead in a shadowy city lane, police think they have found their culprit.

However, when the office tea ladies Hazel, Betty and Irene begin quietly asking questions about the laneway murder, they uncover a tangled web of lies involving missing money, organised crime and a truth someone is willing to keep buried.

“Amanda’s writing is distinguished by the strength of her characters; richly drawn and full of personality, they bring warmth and depth to every storyline,” Kristi said. “Her work is further elevated by its engagement with complex themes, including power and corruption, broader social issues, and women’s rights.”
